We currently offer the following areas of legal advice and specialist projects.

For basic advice on legal matters, please contact your local Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB), or access the national CAB website on www.adviceguide.org.uk, which is also available in five languages.

The areas of housing, welfare benefits and immigration are regulated by the Legal Services Commission and have a specialist Quality Mark in these categories. Immigration advice is exempted by the Office for Immigration Services Commissioner (OISC), the public body that regulates immigration advisors.
REA Learning and Work Advice is accredited by the Guidance Accreditation Board's Matrix standard for learning and work and is also a member of the London West IAG Partnership.

Housing
Advice and assistance to tenants in the private and public sector on most legal issues including possession actions, evictions, rent arrears, legal status, security of tenure and disrepair.  We also advise individuals on homelessness issues and their rights.  We provide full legal representation, where appropriate.
Welfare Benefits
We provide advice and assistance to people who are dissatisfied with decisions of the Dept for Work and Pensions and JobCentre Plus, for example, decisions relating to claims for income support, Job Seekers' Allowance, Disability Living Allowance, Attendance Allowance, Housing and Council Tax Benefits.  We provide representation in appeals before the Unified Appeal Tribunals and the Social Security Commissioners. We also advise and provide representation on Judicial Reviews in the High Court.
  • We can arrange to visit the housebound in their homes.  Please see below under 'HVAS'.
Immigration
  • We provide advice and assistance in the following areas:
  • All areas of asylum and refugee law
  • Most areas of immigration law in terms of entry/stay in the UK
  • Detention, bail and removal
  • Appeals before the Immigration Appelate Authority including representation
  • Nationality law and applications for British Nationality
  • Human rights law related to immigration

  • Information on applying for entry clearance can be found at www.fco.gov.uk.
  • Information on working in the UK can be found at www.workpermitsuk.gov.uk
  • The Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner have a list of approved advisors and also have a complaints system against advisors.
   
Refugee Legal Advice
This service is available at an outreach site, The Thorncliffe Hotel in Heston, Hounslow, where we offer legal advice to refugees and asylum seekers on most aspects of immigration law.  In addition, we provide general advice on issues such as housing, welfare benefits, employment, NASS, and education.  It operates on Mondays and Thursdays from 9.30 am to 12.00 pm at Room 57, Thorncliffe Hotel, North Hyde Lane, Heston, Middx TW5 0ES. Another outreach service takes place at West Thames College on Wednesday mornings from 10am to 12pm.
REA Learning and Work Advice
 
REA is a specialised vocational guidance service for adults over the age of 20 years with the aim of gaining positive outcomes in education and employment.  We particularly welcome those who are disadvantaged in the labour market, i.e. those with basic skills needs, low or no qualifications, labour market returners etc.  We also have a long experience in assisting refugees, asylum seekers and migrants with overseas qualifications and work experience who would like to practice their occupations in the UK.  We offer:
  • Advice on legal rights and entitlements to further and university education, training and employment
  • In-depth guidance interviews
  • Accreditation and comparision of overseas qualifications using the UK NARIC service
  • Advice on jobsearch and interview techniques
  • Help with getting work, voluntary work and work experience
  • Referral to job brokerage for employment opportunties
  • Help with getting courses financied via charitable trusts
  • Referral and signposting to other specialist agencies
  • NB - we can offer only basic information to overseas students and those on work or other temporary visas

Drop-in outreach services take place at: Thorncliffe Hotel, North Hyde Lane, Heston, Hounslow (Mondays 2- 4pm) for residents only, and West Thames College for students of the College only (Thursdays 1 - 4pm).  

Home Visiting Advisory Service ('HVAS')
HVAS provides a welfare benefits service to the housebound and hospitalised, such as the elderly and disabled, who have restricted access to benefits/legal assistance. 
 
IMPORTANT: Referrals to the service can only be made via agencies such as Social Services Departments and Age Concern.
